Woman assaulted by unknown man on St. John's walking trail, RNC says

The RNC said a woman was assaulted by a man she did not know while she was walking on a trail in St. John's Monday morning.

The RNC's major crime unit is investigating

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said a woman was physically injured Monday morning when a man she didn't know assaulted her on a walking trail in St. John's.

The RNC said in a news release that police received a report of the alleged assault Monday afternoon.

The RNC said it happened on the Virginia River Trail, near Churchill Avenue, shortly after 9 a.m.

The news release describes the man as about five feet nine inches tall, approximately 20 to 30 years old, and wearing a brown Metal Mulisha T-shirt and a blue and white bicycle helmet.

The RNC said he was last seen in the area of The Boulevard. 

The RNC's major crime unit is investigating, and there was an increased police presence between Quidi Vidi Lake and Logy Bay Road on Monday.

Investigators are looking for information or video footage from the area between 8:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. Monday.
