A 32-year-old woman is dead after she was struck by vehicle in a hit and run in Scarborough on Friday night, Toronto police say.

The fatal collision between the vehicle and pedestrian happened in the area of Bridlewood Boulevard and Sheppard Avenue E., east of Pharmacy Avenue. Police said they were called to the area at about 9:10 p.m.

Duty Insp. Brian Maslowski told reporters on Friday night that the woman died of her injuries at the scene despite the best efforts of paramedics and members of the public who tried to help.

Maslowski said the suspect vehicle was eastbound on Sheppard Avenue E. from Pharmacy Avenue when it struck the woman. The motorist did not remain at the scene, he said.

Police have released an image of the suspect vehicle, a 2011 black Hyundai Sonata, which they said they found at 3275 Sheppard Avenue E on Friday.

The car had "extensive damage" and has the Ontario licence plate CTCN 951, according to a news release Saturday.

Anyone with information about the vehicle or the driver is asked to contact police or leave an anonymous trip through Crime Stoppers.

Maslowski said the driver is urged to get a lawyer and surrender to police.

He said "it's highly improbable" that the driver would not have noticed that they hit a pedestrian.
